Reddit can and should be used as one of the most essential tools in your content marketing arsenal. With over 52,000,000 active users and more than 100,000 Subreddits (communities), Reddit is a place where you can reach people who are interested in virtually any topic.
The platform hosts some of the largest audiences in the world on topics ranging from the silly and bizarre to the practical and mundane, which means that if you sell it, there are people on Reddit who want to buy it.
It’s important to note that Reddit is not a place to share your latest products, coupons, or otherwise spam your commercial content. That will only serve as a surefire way to get your content removed and even get your account banned altogether.
What you’ll want to focus on is creating high-quality content that is within your sales funnel, but far enough away from your commercial goals as a company that it remains both shareable AND linkable with as large of an audience as possible.
For example, if you own a company that sells basketballs, you should create some high-quality-awesome-and-original non-commercial basketball-related content. This content will be directly related to your commercial goals (within your sales funnel) and will attract the very people you’re hoping will buy your product.
If you posted an article about your holiday sale on blue basketballs, it’s not going to have the same effect. Before I go any further, I want to mention that qualified traffic isn’t our primary goal here. It’s a happy benefit, sure, but not our immediate aim.
First and foremost, our goal is to use Reddit as a passive link building platform.
Let’s go back to the basketball example. If you post your high-quality-awesome-and-original content in r/Basketball, not only will you be sharing it with people who are passionate about basketball and are likely to continue spreading your content, you’ll also be sharing it with some of the top basketball journalists in the world.
A secret you may not be privy to is that journalists and writers often scour Reddit for fresh and original content within their areas of expertise.
If an ESPN staff writer who specializes in basketball-related content happens to see your content getting praise and engagement in the comment section of r/Basketball, they might just feel compelled to cover it in their next article.
As you know, a basketball company getting a link from ESPN is about as good of a link as you could dream of… and Reddit is the place that can make that possible.
If you’re looking for some high-quality-awesome-and-original content of your own to boost your link building game, let us know and we’d be happy to help. After all, it’s what we do best!
